10 Stunning Gift Wrapping Ideas
Today I have a collection of gift wrapping ideas for my post over at Babble. I'm amazed at all the ideas and talent out there! I may never buy a bow again! Above: Fabric Petals from Pretty Petals. Check the post out here!
Wolfie and the Sneak
One of my favourite posters out there is Learning the Ropes from Wolfie and the Sneak. Perfect for a cabin or boys room. Artist Renee Garner is an amazing illustrator and makes some great prints for the home. Also check out her Farmer Market Poster series. Great for the kitchen! She's also in our market this month. Check her out here or online below:

Summer Tunes: Destroyer "Savage Night at the Opera"
Exclaim says it's a safe bet that Destroyer's Kaputt will make many a year-end best-of list and some will be pleased that they have offered up a new video for the album track, "Savage Night at the Opera." Directed by David Galloway the video features a motorbike clipping through the streets of Vancouver starting near Gastown and ending up in Stanley Park (running a few red lights along the way I might add). There's something sort of intoxicating about the video, I'm thinking it's the low tippy fast ride through the city, and a cool view of the place we call home. I'm now going to try it in full screen.
DIY—Rolling Crate Footstool
Sue from Twig & Vine (part of Ilo Collective - participants in our market this month) created a fun little DIY on her blog recently transforming a Borden’s milk crate into a unique rustic coffee table/footstool. She was nice enough to share it with us here this week. She also used her Aunt Emma's cutting board to create a lid for the crate which now holds a cache of books and magazines and resides near two cozy chairs in the corner of her kitchen. Check out her DIY here and more from her shop here:

10 Fun Back to School {Work} Supplies from IKEA!
![]() |
| (Image from Livet Hemma) |
Just as the kiddo’s head back to school, so must many parents head back to work. So why can’t we all enjoy some “Back To” supplies – especially when they’re looking as pretty as these. It’s a great time of year to create a desktop like this, and the folks at IKEA have a pretty decent new series of papergoods. My post today at Babble has the scoop. Check it here.
A Seasonal Shift: Fluffy Gluten-Free Buckwheat Ricotta Pancakes
By Jeannette Ordas of Everybody likes Sandwiches

It's definitely still summer out there – the days are hot and your shoulders still burn if you aren't using sunscreen – but there's a shift happening. Can you feel it? It's not just the days that are getting shorter but the mornings and evening are becoming very cardigan-worthy. And if that isn't getting through to you, this weekend is Labour Day which traditionally hails the end of summer fun. So you might as well experience the changing of the seasonal guard with a stack of fluffy pancakes, right? Right.

These pancakes are made with buckwheat flour which isn't a flour made from wheat - instead it's more of a cereal which makes these babies totally gluten-free. So if you or someone you know is gluten-intolerant, make up a batch of these right away! But don't go thinking that these will be leaden lumps of dough. Hardly. It's the ricotta cheese that is the secret weapon here and gives these hot cakes a very airy and light texture.

So whip up a batch and make peace with the end of summer. Pancakes make almost everything better.
Fluffy Gluten-Free Buckwheat Ricotta Pancakes
1 cup buckwheat flour
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
pinch of sea salt
3/4 cup milk
1/2 cup ricotta
1 large egg
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1 tablespoon of melted coconut oil (or butter)
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
In another bowl, combine the milk, ricotta, egg and maple syrup together with the melted coconut oil. Fold the wet ingredients into the dry until just combined. Let sit for 5 minutes.
Heat up your skillet, grease it lightly with butter or coconut oil and drop batter (about 1/4 cup for each pancake) onto the pan. When bubbles form on top and the slides look almost set, flip for 30 seconds. Remove and repeat. Serve with plenty of maple syrup and fresh fruit. Makes 4-6 pancakes.

Now that all the dust has settled and I’ve had a bit of time to take in the new 2012 IKEA catalog, I’ve collected a little nice must-have list from the accessories department. There truly is some good stuff this year folks and I can hardly wait to pick some of these up myself. Wish I had a slideshow option to show you here at Poppytalk (but blogger doesn't have that), so in the meantime, check out my must-have list today at Babble HERE.

So we're really excited over here with the anticipation of Design Sponge's new book Design Sponge at Home and book tour coming to Vancouver this fall. We're thrilled to be creating the backdrop for the event along with Denise Liu and Linus Lam of a local design office Edison & Sprinkles (and Artsy! Dartsy!). Also Janis Nicolay of Pinecone Camp will be there taking official photo's that night. More info can be found here. Can't wait to meet Grace!
New Video: Missoni for Target
Have you heard enough of the new Missoni for Target collection yet? It's been all over the blogosphere, but I hadn't mentioned it here yet, and then ran into this video. Do you like what you see? (Via Happy Mundane).
Fruit Stands and Wine - A B.C. Road Trip
Hello everyone! Janis here, from Pinecone Camp. I just did a little road trip up to the Okanagan, and through B.C. wine country (about 5 hours from Vancouver and Seattle), and I have to say, it was difficult to get back to work! Such a beautiful part of Canada. The only desert area in Canada too, fyi. I shot this story with my Canon, iPhone and old kodak duaflex. Fun to experiment and compare. Here we go...
We started out our first day at this diner, Elite, in Penticton. No frills, but cheap and pretty tasty.
A view from Munson Mountain in Penticton.
Forest Green Lavender Man, in Naramata, is a beautiful place to check out before you hit the wineries.
Poplar Grove was one of my favourite wineries. Fantastic wine and the staff were so helpful and informative. Beautiful building and the view was amazing.
This area is great for vintage shopping as well. We checked out Zack's in Olalla, and Jardin Antiques in Okagnagan Falls. I actually picked up the coffee cups pictured, as I have a small collection of this print and they were only .50 each. Love a deal.
The Oliver theatre in Oliver BC. I'm so happy it's still there. For more info about this fabulous small town, click here.
Another must-see winery is Tinhorn Creek in Oliver. Miradoro is their new restaurant - definitely the best meal we had on the trip. Loved their wine too ;)
Back in Naramata, we found our new favourite fruit stand, The Trail, where you can pick your own organic corn, plums, peaches and apples. Jean Hollett and her uncle, Rod, know their produce! Very cute duo.

If you do visit B.C., I hope you can take a little tour through this part of the province. Countless fabulous, and award winning, wineries, endless orchards, great vintage shops, and beautiful lakes. Breathtaking.
Have a lovely day!

New Prints from Tastes Orangey
Lovely new sewn prints (from original acrylic paintings) by California-based artist Clare Elsaesser of Tastes Orangey. Beautiful mossy greens and wine colors. All of her prints are printed on a piece of textured watercolor paper which is then sewn around the borders, to give it a more substantial feel (like mixed media work). Check her out online:

Saturday's Wedding: Jess + TJ
If you happened by 100 Layer Cake this month you may have seen this rustic handmade wedding in Colorado of Jess + TJ's! From their hoedown and rehearsal dinner to their incredible ceremony, I thought it's handmade touch was a perfect wedding to bring here for our new Saturday Weddings post. I loved her idea as part of their response card that they asked their guests to send a piece of fabric and then the bride, Jess pieced together the quilt and had a local quilter do heart embroidery on top to finish it off. See it wrapped around them in the rain? And speaking of rain, check out that incredible double rainbow that showed up at the end of their ceremony. Pretty amazing! See more pics and details (including DIYs) from this wedding over at 100 Layer Cake.

New Work: You Sentimental Idiot
New works from Rikkianne Van Kirk of You Sentimental Idiot. Original paintings on salvaged drift wood (parts of a wooden basket she found washed up on the beach). I love the man with the net (in his suit) and the woman swimmer with a stick in the air. Beautifully weathered pieces, signed and dated on the back. Rikkianne is in our market this month as well.
